LOW LIGHT CONCEPTS

The use of a flashlight can be an asset or a liability, based on the level of knowledge and training of the operator. There is so much more to operating in diminished lighting conditions then just having a flashlight and turning it on to see in front of you.

This course will cover the definitions of Scotopic and photopic lighting conditions and how it applys to the operator. The modern developments in flashlights as well as weapon mounted lights (WML). How to read and operate in the different lighting conditions. Understand and apply the principles of low light operations. Attendees will also cover proper shooting techniques with weapon mounted lights, as well as shooting with a handheld flashlight.

Upon completion of this course, attendees will have the knowledge and will be able to demonstrate the proper use of a flashlight in all situations ranging from normal activities to lethal force engagements. This course will increase the attendee’s chance of surviving and prevailing in lethal-force encounters occurring in diminished lighting conditions. A skill assessment of each attendee will be preformed through live fire drills on the range, as well as reality-based training utilizing force on force scenarios.

  • Duty pistol with weapon mounted light

  • 400 rounds of rifle and pistol ammunition

  • Handheld Tactical flashlight(s)

  • Spare batteries or battery chargers for flashlights

  • All normal personal operations gear

      • Plate carrier/soft armor

      • Helmet

      • Belt with holster

      • Magazine pouches

      • Gloves

      • Hydration

  • Personal Protection Gear

      • Eye and ear protections for live fire

      • Head, face, and groin protection for force on force training.

      • Duty gear

      • Writing material

      • Camelback or other means of hydration

  • Appropriate wear for force on force training

      • BDU, agency t-shirt, long or short sleeve, boots, etc

      • Head, face, and groin protection for force on force training

PREREQUISITES

  • Current Law Enforcement, Military, Government Credentials

  • Must be in good physical condition

  • Must be able to participate in intensive training lasting up to 10 hours per day

  • Must not have any medical restrictions
